Seriously Thursday

Check out Miss Becky over at From Mrs. to Mama and link up.

  1. Seriously . . . there has been a lot of spirituality on Survivor this season and it seems a little sketchy sometimes, like when Coach prays to find the idol when he already has it.
  2. Seriously . . . I go back to work next week and am seriously sad about it because I will miss my baby boy.
  3. Seriously . . .  I love my husband so much.  He and my son are my everything.
  4. Seriously . . . I am so FREAKING EXCITED because my bestie, Erin, is coming to Tulsa this weekend.  I haven't seen her since June and I miss her like CRAZY!
  5. Seriously . . . I never thought I would enjoy breastfeeding as much as I do.  Knowing that I give my son everything he needs is incredible.
  6. Seriously . . . My son has almost doubled his weight since he was born 7 weeks ago. I am torn sometimes between wanting to see him thrive so much and wanting him to stay little for forever.
  7. Seriously . . . I am looking forward to drinking some wine with Erin this weekend.
  8. Seriously . . . I am so happy to be exercising again. It just feels good.
  9. Seriously . . . I can't wait to get my hair done in 2 weeks.  It is seriously one of my favorite things ever.
  10. Seriously . . . I am so excited for Christmas which seems a bit ridiculous since it is still October.
  11. Seriously . . . I love dessert shows and am really bummed that Top Chef Just Desserts is over :(

What I'm Loving Wednesday

This little guy.  Check out these videos and please ignore my voice.

My Favorite Smells

I've always smelled things.  Always.  While if I HAD to give up one of my senses, smell might be the first to go, I associate so many wonderful memories with my sense of smell.  As strange as it seems, I knew that I was truly in love with B and completely over my ex (B and I started dating just days after I found another girl's things in his room) when I found his smell intoxicating.  So without further adieu, I present to you my favorite smells.

We'll start with B.  He smells a mix of Irish Spring soap, his deodorant and skin.  Yes, I know that "skin" technically isn't a smell, but that is the best way I can describe it.  To me, the smell of Irish Spring is now intoxicating.  There are times when I've used it to wash my hands or something and then have felt a little light headed and confused as to where a wonderful smell was coming from.  Then I would realize it's the soap.  It's the most prominent in his smell. I love it.

LB.  Oh I could smell that baby all day and all night.  All babies smell sweet, but there is something about MY baby that just smells so wonderful.  I can't even describe it.  All I know is that it is wonderful.  There are days when I just hold him all day and then I can smell him on me and, oh, it is just so wonderful.
Doesn't he just look like he smells delicious?  How could you not love those cheeks?
Diva Perfume.  It is what my Nana smelled like.  My Nana was one of the most special people in the world to me. I loved her more than anything.  She passed away 6 years ago and to this day, if I smell Diva, I am instantly with my Nana and it brings tears to my eyes.  It may, as the lady at the perfume store once told me, be an old lady perfume, but that doesn't stop me from occasionally going to the perfume store and getting a sample.

Basements.  Don't ask me why, but I kind of love the musty smell of basements.  Always have and likely always will.

Christmas.  I will always associate Christmas with the smells of cranberry tea, baked goods, turkey and wine.

Baking Chocolate Chip Cookies. This is what my house currently smells like since I just baked a batch.  MMMM, Lovely.

Fresh laundry.  Okay, this one is kind of a given because, let's be honest, who doesn't love the smell of clean laundry?

Happy One Month Birthday Sweet Boy

(Written over the course of 3 days)
To My Sweet Baby Boy,
Well, one month ago today, I gave birth to you, my sweet baby boy.  The last four weeks have been a blur. A wonderful, tiring, exhilarating month full of love.  It is crazy because it feels equally like it has flown by and that there is no way it has ONLY been one month.  You bring such joy to Momma and Daddy's lives.  Every day is an adventure for us.  You change so much each and every day.  We love to just watch you grow and develop.  Momma and Daddy love to just watch you.  I smother you with kisses each and every day.  Your Daddy and I tell you how much we love you all the time.  We love to play with you.  We love you so much sweet baby boy.  You are the joy in Momma and Daddy's lives.

Baby Stats:
Sleep:  Your sleep is getting predictable.  At night, you are typically down by 8:30 and get a 4-5 hour stretch (I say this as you are fussing on Daddy's chest right now at 9:00).  During the day you are typically up by 8:00 am. You eat, get a change (or 3) and then go down for a nap around 9:30 or 10:00.  That nap normally lasts about an hour or an hour and a half.  After that, you wake up, get changed a few times, eat some more and we play for a little while before you want to get fussy and want to go back down, normally around 1:00 pm and sleep until around 4.  You make the cutest faces and noises when you sleep.  Momma and Daddy are learning what your noises mean and whether they mean you need to be picked up or that you are just having a restless period of sleep.  We're getting there.

Routine:  Like I said above, you are typically down by 8:30 and sleep until at least 12:30 before wanting to be fed and changed.  Then it's every 2-3 hours after that for a feed and change.  You typically get up for the day around 7:00 am or 8:00 am.  We feed and change and then you go down for one of your short naps.  This is when Momma gets some breakfast and goes to the bathroom.  After this nap you wake up and want to cuddle, be changed and then we have some play time.  Our play time still consists of you exploring your play mat, Momma getting in your face and making silly faces at you or reading, singing and dancing around.  Around 1:00 pm you go back down for long nap number 2 and you sleep until around 4:00 pm.  After you wake up, we have a change and sometimes you eat.  Then we play until Daddy gets home from work.  Normally, we get a walk in during the day, but we really like to wait for Daddy to get home and to take a walk as a family.  During the day you like to eat every 2-4 hours and you LOVE to eat.  You get changed whenever you demand it, and that is when you are even SLIGHTLY wet and awake.  Otherwise we just wait for you to awaken from a nap to change you.  Don't wake the baby!

Feed: Oh you love your food!  You had a growth spurt last week and were eating all the time.  Typically you eat every 2-4 hours, but sometimes you want to eat every 1-2 hours.  You're also a very efficient eater.  You started going a bit slower this week, but for the most part, you latch on and attack for about 10 minutes, then you detach and are done and don't want the other breast.  I was concerned at first, but then we saw how much weight you are gaining and stopped being concerned.

Weight:  You weighed 6 lb 15 oz when you were born. Today you are 10 lb.  You are such a good eater :)

Length: When you were born, you were 19.5 oz.  Last Monday at the doctor, you were 21.25 in.  I have no idea how long you are now, but I am willing to guess that you are longer now since I can put you on my shoulder and your legs go all the way down to my hips.

Diaper Size: You have been in size 1 for weeks.  We ran out of newborns and we knew you were growing so fast that we just decided to put you in size 1's even though they were slightly too big.  Now they fit you great since you are getting so big!

Clothes Size:  We packed away all of your new born clothes last week. Now you are in all 0-3 or 3 month clothes.

Hair Color:  You were born with a full head of very dark hair, but it is quickly becoming blonde.  I love your hair.  You even have this funny little mullet.  Your Uncle Scott is so jealous because he was bald for the first 2 years of his life.

Eye Color:  You have such beautiful eyes.  When you were born they were very dark blue.  Now they are still dark blue and we think they will likely go brown.

Funniest Moment: You make the funniest faces when we wash your hair.  We use the hand held shower head for your hair and you LOVE LOVE LOVE it.  We can't help but giggle when we rinse your sweet little head.  It's also funny when you get a poopy diaper when sitting on Daddy's lap.  He always says "Eww Gross!"  And then very hesitantly will go change you if I don't immediately volunteer.

Favorite Toy:  You really like your play mat.  You also love going on walks with Momma and Daddy.  You are still unsure about your swing, but like it sometimes.  You also love being on your changing table and just staring.  You are a vain little fella and you love to stare at yourself in the mirror on your play mat.  You're also getting big enough to hit the rings on your play mat and you like those too :)

Firsts:  First time to TU's campus.  First time in a sorority house (we went to see the girls at the chapter I advise).  First smiles (I haven't been able to catch them on cameras).  First coos.  First photo shoot!  This weekend, your Grandma, Great-Grandma, Great-Great Aunt and possibly Granddad are going to come see you.  Next weekend, your Nana and Grandpa will be here.  Also, many other people will be here because it is your baptism.

Happy One Month Birthday, Sweet Boy.  Momma and Daddy love you so very much.  Sometimes I just stare at you and my eyes tear up because of how much I love you.  Your Daddy and I love you so very, very much.  You are the light in our lives and we cannot imagine our lives without you.

What's up, Freddy?

Hey, Rocky. You used to be daddy's, but now you're all mine!

Ya, I'm bigger than you.

Look how big I am, Rocky!

Seriously Thursday

  • SERIOUSLY . . . My baby boy is one month old.  SIGH I love him.
  • SERIOUSLY . . .  I am bummed that Dance Moms is over for the season and am EAGERLY awaiting season 2.
  • SERIOUSLY . . .  I feel like a dairy cow some days - pump and feed and pump and feed.  Oh boobs!
  • SERIOUSLY . . .  Sometimes I have to remind myself to be interested in other people when talking to them.  Sometimes I just want to talk about me and my boy.  So, I'm a slight narcissist.  So what?
  • SERIOUSLY . . .  I am so bummed that my mom won't be coming to town until NEXT Friday instead of Monday.  I was really kind of counting on her being here to help out and help me feel comfortable taking naps (sometimes I'm not).
  • SERIOUSLY . . .  I am so ready to REALLY start exercising again; however, I have to wait until my 6 week appointment.  So, for now, we're taking long walks every day.
  • SERIOUSLY . . .  I haven't had more than a sip of beer yet.  However, I'm pretty sure we have his evening sleep schedule figured out so I can start having a drink after he goes down now.
  • SERIOUSLY . . . We had family pics taken last Saturday and I am so not happy with the way I look in them (please refer back to me wanting to start exercising again).
  • SERIOUSLY . . .  Sometimes my son cries in his sleep and then just goes back to sleep.  It's kind of funny.
So, what are you saying "Seriously" about today?   Go link up!

UGH SO ANGRY!!!

So, my son is one month old this week (4 weeks tomorrow, one month from his birth on Thursday so I'll just do a one month post on Wednesday lol).  Everyone in our family has met him, that is except for my father in law.  My mother in law, sister in law and her husband all came up the weekend after we came home from the hospital.  My father in law didn't come with them.  Why?  Because it would disrupt some of the guys in his bicycle group. B won't admit it, but he's really hurt by all this.  I just don't get it.  He and I aren't really close and don't really see eye to eye on a lot of things, but I thought THIS would be one thing that he would be jumping to do - be a grandpa.  I just don't know what to say about this anymore.  Anyway, I'm sad over all of this, but I am exhausted and am now going to bed.  However, I will leave you with pictures of what the boy looks like after tummy time.

You are NOT tired

So, being the mother of a 3 (almost 4) week old baby is intense.  Most days I feel like a dairy cow and I just watch my son while he does, well not a whole lot because he is only a few weeks old.  However, he has started to make really adorable noises on purpose and I love it.
Anyway, there are lots of things that I have learned about being a new mom, but I'm really more concerned with the things that the husband needs to learn.  Let's use bullet points for efficiency sake.
  • Don't tell your wife that you are tired when YOU didn't get up 4 times in the night.  True, you may have awakened, but you were not up for an hour feeding, changing and soothing the sleep sucking monster (aka my adorable, sweet little boy).  YOU went back to sleep.  So, while your sleep may have been disrupted, it wasn't completely interrupted.
  • On the nights that you do help (aka the weekends, and I am totally fine with that because he does have to go to work the next day during the week), don't say things like "Oh that was a bad night!" or "Wow, he was up a lot last night."  Likely it's just par for the course.
  • Ok, you're congested and not feeling 100%.  Don't tell me that you took some NYQUIL.  NYQUIL!  That is just like saying "Ya, I have no intention of helping you out tonight."
  • Don't say anything along the lines of, "Aren't you going to _____________?"  This phrase is usually followed with something like "do the dishes/laundry" "clean the kitchen" "cook dinner."
All of the above statements are typically followed by making the wife/momma all stabby and angry.  Let's be honest, wives/mommas are already exhausted and frustrated and a little stabby from sleep exhaustion and being used as a dairy cow all day every day.

And now a break from all the stabby feelings and adorable pictures of my boy.

He was not happy with the outcome of the Cowboys game

My world

And with that I am headed to bed.  Yes, it is only 8:00 pm. No, I don't care because I have a baby who is asleep right now which means I need to go to sleep too.  Last night he went down around 8:00 and slept until 12:30.  Do you know what kind of heaven I will be in if I can get 4 uninterrupted hours of sleep?
