Andy Cohen's got the 411 - Or it's just me

The good thing about your baby being sick: You get to stay home from work and blog.  The bad thing about your baby being sick: You have to stay home from work and THE BABY IS SICK! So, now I am linking up with Becky over at From Mrs. to Mama for my 411.

1. How long have you been blogging? And what got you started on blogging? Has your blog changed?
Let's see, I started blogging during my first year of law school and when I was planning my wedding. So, that was 5 years ago. I started blogging to record the things that were going on in my life.  And yes, my blog has changed. Last year, there was some drama that went down regarding my blog and so, not only did it change, but I shut down the old one and started this one :)

2. Did you go to college? If so where, and what did you study?

I went to college at The University of Tulsa. I got a business administration degree with a specialization in business law.  I then went to law school at The University of Tulsa College of Law. I knew that I was going to go to law school so I looked at undergrad as a means to an end and, looking back, I probably wouldn't have gotten a BA, but accounting or finance or just sucked it up and gotten over my chemistry aversion and gotten a nursing degree.

3. Where have you traveled?
I never traveled anywhere until I met B.  After graduating from college, B and I went on a Mediterranean cruise.  We hit the following places: Barcelona, Nice, Florence, Pisa, Rome, Mykonos (Greece), Ephasus (Turkey), Santorini (Greece), Athens and Napels/Pompei.  We actually got engaged in Rome. For our honeymoon, we went to St. Lucia. I HIGHLY recommend St. Lucia if you are interested in a Caribbean vacation.
Top Row Left to Right: Ephesus, Athens, Pompei; Second Row: Santorini, Florence, Rome; Third Row: Rome, Barcelona, The Vatican; Fourth Row: Pisa, Mykonos and Nice.

Honeymoon

4. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy?
I am so lame. I would pay off my student loans, house and cars.  However, I would probably buy a new car and pay off my parents' house/debt and put a lot in savings. LAME!

5. What are your 3 biggest pet peeves?
Oh I am going to catch so much shit for some of these:
A) Bad grammar.  There really is no excuse for misuse of words like where/were/we're; there/their/they're; then/than; your/you're. Ya, I know that makes me snobby or whatever, but it was drilled into me as a child and drives me crazy now.
B) People telling me how to raise my child.  This doesn't happen now so much as it did when I was pregnant.  It drove me NUTS!
C) Lying, especially when it is for no reason.

6. What is your favorite movie?
All time? Sleeping Beauty.  The Disney version.

7. What is your drink of choice; wine, beer, or liquor. Or Water, Soda, Tea?
I'm a St. Louis girl at heart. I love me some Bud Light and really just about any beer.  Rarely have I found a beer that turns me off.  I also prefer water and tea to soda - most of the time.

8. What is something you enjoy to do when you have me time?
Blog, sleep and shop.  Clearly, I have been lacking in the "me" time lately and when I've had it have chosen sleep.

9. If you could have a $10,000 shopping spree to one store, which store would it be?
Lately, Ann Taylor or Loft probably.  That or I'd just go onto Piperlime or Saks or Nordstrom or J Crew.  I feel like I'm in this in between time in my life where I don't really have many places I find things I like.

10. Share with us an embarrassing moment of your past? Or present.
It's more of a retrospective embarrassing moment.  See, B and I went to the same college, but were never there at the same time.  During my junior year, my sorority was participating in Sigma Chi Derby Days (which we won - of course) and my "job" was to stand in front of the judges and dance and pour alcohol down their throats.  Well, flash forward to a few months later when B and I start dating. Then a few months after that when I met B's friends and realize that some of them look familiar.  Then a while after that when I realize his friends were the aforementioned judges.  No one brought it up until last year wherein we made a deal to never speak of it again.  Let's put it this way: THIS was my state of mind at the event.

11. What day would you love to relive again?
A few: 1) The last day I was with my Nana before she went into a coma; 2) The day I got engaged; 3) My wedding day; 4) When B Jr was born.

12. If your life was turned into a movie... what actor would play you?
Hmmm...I love Reese Witherspoon, but probably Christina Ricci as a blonde.

13. What are the jobs you had in high school/college/the early years?
I worked at McAlister's Deli during my senior year of HS and summers during college.  I also worked at the Alumni office during college, a country club one summer, Carrabba's one summer, and the law library during my first 2 years of law school.

14. Show us a picture from high school or college.
Oh let's see what I can find. I posted one from college above, but let's find some more shall we:
College

High School

I cheered through college and based - check out the thick legs

15. If you could travel anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go?
EVERYWHERE! I know that is cliche, but seriously, all expenses paid, time doesn't matter? I would go everywhere! I would to go shows in NYC with my mom. Australia, Asia, Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Germany, everywhere in Europe! South America. Africa. EVERYWHERE!

16. Show us the most current picture of you or you, or your family, or anything of meaning to you.
Love my boys!

17. Where do you see your life 5 years from now?
BUSY! I see us having at least one more kiddo. Having settled into our house. Still working at my company, but hopefully having moved up a bit. Being married to that sexy man and chasing after my children.  Sounds wonderful to me!

Lately...

So, I've wanted to do monthly posts about the babe, but I've realized that just isn't likely to happen right now. But what I can do is give yall the low down on what we've been up to in the last few months.

- Crawling - well he speed crawls.  Kid can make it across the room like it's no one's business.  He loves to go and doesn't like to be held so much anymore...until he DEMANDS to be held. Then he wants to be held for a few minutes, then let down.
- Pulling Up - almost as soon as he figured out the crawling, he figured out the pulling up.  He barely keeps his butt on the ground anymore.  He wants to be up all the time. He wants to crawl over and on top of things (favorites being parents).  He wants to get into everything, especially after being told "no!" He keeps us on our toes.

- We've gone to the swimming pool and he was unsure about it.  Either the water was too cold or he's just not quite there yet.  However, he did enjoy the people watching and seemed to have his eye on a cute little 2 yo girl.  Going after the older ladies.
- Foods - B Jr is eating just about everything that we are eating.  The favorite: SPAGHETTI!  Oh he just loves it.  And what comes after spaghetti night? BATH TIME! Straight to the bathtub.

- My baby the superstar! - Our church asked to take some photos of the baby and family and we, of course, obliged.  Then, we had family photos today.  What can I say, we made a cute kiddo.

 - We've had visitors - Both sets of grandparents have come to visit in the last month. I love seeing family, but it can sometimes make for difficult and busy weekends.

- TEETH - We have CHOMPERS! B Jr has 5-6 (some poke through and then are hidden the next day) teeth ON TOP and 2 on bottom with super swollen gums.

That is what has been going on with our little man. He keeps us on our toes and I just love him so very much.  He still nurses and that is still going well (minus the chomp I got today - that NEVER happens).  I've also been a little under the weather with a cold I can't really seem to shake. I know that I should go to the doctor, but man I'm lazy and I hate not being at work when I should be.  I'd rather use PTO for a fun trip.

Speaking of, my mom got me tickets to a Cards/Cubs game in July for my bday.  YAY!!!  GO CARDS! I was so pregnant and it was so hot that I didn't make it to a game last summer.  Speaking of sports, everyone in OK has Thunder-fever.  This team has been such an amazing thing for OK and I really hope that people stop thinking we don't live in teepees and everyone on farms anymore.  Even Metta World Peace (OMG I just threw up in my mouth saying that) said there are some fine ladies in OK.  Thanks...I think.

My goal is to get at least one post a week in and I'd love to get more.  B Jr is going on 4 nights in a row of sleeping through the night, but I just don't trust him.  Hopefully this becomes a regular thing and I stop feeling the need to go to bed before 10.

THUNDER UP (that was for you Jen)!

Guess who sucks at blogging but kicks ass at spider killing

That's right, THIS GAL!  So I suck at blogging lately.  I guess I could make lots of excuses, but basically it comes down to a choice of blogging or spending time with the fam, eating and showering.  Clearly we know what has been taking the biggest hit.

Anyway, like I was saying, even though I totally suck at blogging lately (I blame not being able to access the blog at work where most of my musings used to be created), I totally rock at spider killing. I saw a giant, nasty spider last night skitter across the floor before I went to bed.  Then it disappeared. We moved furniture and NOTHING.  So then I started thinking, "well maybe I just hallucinated the whole thing." Then I remembered that I hadn't ingested any mind altering substances and I wasn't THAT tired and I hadn't mixed a lot of alcohol with cold medicine (which totally gave me Harry Potter hallucinations one year - read: mid-serious-conversation with someone I totally said "This is just like Harry Potter." Why? Not a clue).  So then I figured it would show up some other time.  AND IT TOTALLY FUCKING DID!  Today.  Next to the diapers we keep downstairs.  A GIANT FUCKING BROWN SPIDER!  BROWN!  AS IN A GIANT FUCKING BROWN RECLUSE!!!!!  AS IN FUCKING NECROSIS (look it up - I don't want to explain...on second thought, don't look it up b/c it's when your skin dies and that is fucking nasty).

Ok, so now you're all probably thinking "Bitch, those aren't even indigenous to Oklahoma." And I'm here to tell you that yes, yes they are!  And then you're thinking "Hooker, you don't even know for a fact that it was a brown recluse.  It totes could have been one of those other spiders that kind of look like it."  And that is a very valid argument.  In fact, so valid that I already looked it up and you know what the interwebs said?  It said that I had to look at the FUCKING PINCERS to determine.  What kind of fucker gets close enough to a skin killing spider to look at the FUCKING PINCER?  Not this gal.  So I thought to myself, "Wow that is really helpful advice if it weren't for the fact that those spiders were squished messes on the bottom of a flipflop."  UGH!  So, today in my living room, I may or may not have killed 2 brown recluses and now may or may not be hyper vigilant about finding other spiders to slaughter (read: I saw some little things crawling around near our fireplace so I sprayed them down with some Lysol cleaner).

Who is going to get close enough to check out this guy's pincer?

A Little Veratiserum...

What What?! It's time for my confessions again.  Go check out Leslie at A Blonde Ambition and link up with her skinny ass (seriously, she's totally adorable and teeny tiny!).

- I am kind of nerdy with a few of my favorite things being Harry Potter and Glee.
- I suck at blogging lately.  Between B Jr not sleeping, the move and work, WHEW, I'm exhausted.
- In the last few weeks, I've "gone to bed" early, but have stayed up reading the Fifty Shades of Grey series.
- We can't flush our toilet in the middle of the night because it will wake up B Jr.
- I have tried to buy things on The Limited's website a few times in the last 2 weeks and each time it has failed.  I seriously want new clothes!
- I am very confused as to why navy seems to have gone out of vogue.
- I may or may not get B Jr's 7 and 8 month post done before his 9 month birthday.
- I am going to host a fun little link up in the next couple week so please stay tuned :)
- I am having trouble staying motivated to work out because I am still losing weight without it (don't be jealous, it's not like I'm tiny and I'm definitely still wobbly).
- I want a new swimsuit, but I am terrified of trying them on.

What it is! Those are my confessions bitches! What are yours?  Let me know if you link up!!!

Oh Hey

So, what are you all up to?  I have been up to, well a lot.  I've never been one to have perfect attendance, but my attendance here has been abysmal.  And you know who has noticed?  Well, someone because I lost a follower.  Sad panda.
So, what have I been doing?  Well, we moved into a new house and have been trying to get that mess unpacked and organized (house tour to come soon...ish).  I've been chasing after a crawling baby.  Yes, we have a crawler.  He thinks he's GI Joe baby or something.  He prefers the army crawl to being on all fours.  He started crawling the week before we moved. In our old house, we had carpet.  In our new house, we have hardwood floors, which might be why he prefers the army crawl.  Anyway, it's funny because he will just push off and slide.  Example:

What else have I been doing? Reading the Fifty Shades series.  Umm, let's just say that B should be thankful that Mr. Grey entered my life.  I'm thinking that I would like to see either Ian Somerhalder or Henry Cavill as Christian and Elizabeth Olsen as Ana.

What else have I been doing?  Hmmm...Well there's the usual work, cleaning the house, cooking, and trying to sleep.  OH and B Jr got an ear infection.  So that has been fun and lacking sleep.  I've been looking forward to my first Mother's Day.  I've been meeting the neighbors.  I've been trying to sneak in workouts and showers.  Oh and feeling guilty for not blogging.  However, I've been lucky to get to sit down on the couch before 9:30 each night.  I am exhausted, but it's starting to calm down.  I am going to try to get some posts scheduled for the coming weeks and hopefully get back on track.  I miss blogging and I miss reading and I miss commenting.

I win!

Jamie picked me for a blog award and it kind of made my day a little bit :)
So, I am supposed to nominate 5 people and give 5 random facts.  So, I nominate the following people:
Jen
Nicole
Courtney
Stacy
Janna

Alright, here are my 5 random facts.

1) Jamie and I went to high school together.  We didn't really hang out or even spend any time together, but I've really enjoyed reading her blog :)
2) I have possibly the world's biggest mouth EVER!
Ironically, she and I never really got along

3) Having unread emails makes me anxious.

4) From the day I was born until after I got married, I went by my middle name. After I got married, I changed my name, taking my middle as my first, my maiden as my middle and dropping my first name.

5) I met my college bestie's friends at her wedding a couple of years ago and have become better friends with them than I  am with some people I considered close friends in the past.

Thanks again, Jamie!

Who's Your Doppleganger

A Mommas Desires and Pacifiers

Who do you look like?  It's what Raven wants to know.  And since Raven is a must read for me (and should be for you if she isn't already), I grabbed a glass of wine and sat down to find out who was my doppleganger.

When I was in 2nd grade, we moved to Springfield, MO and I went to school with a girl who looked so much like me it was weird.  Oddly enough, no matter how hard we tried, we couldn't be friends.  We just didn't get along.  That was around the same time that I got my first "Oh you look like a blonde Christina Ricci." Well, apparently, MyHeritage.com agreed.

Then I got curious and wondered who else they thought I looked like and I was surprised by what I got:

Beyonce?  Angelina?  Really?  I don't see it...  Shirley Temple?  Ehhh I think I get that.

Who do you look like?

I must confess

I'm linking up with Leslie over at A Blonde Ambition to confess this week.
~ I am a bitch. I'm not a mean bitch anymore. I used to be a mean girl, but now I'm just a sarcastic bitch and that is more fun than being a mean bitch.
~My life has been put on hold until we move in 3 weeks.
~ I want fair food.
~ I wish Tulsa had a cupcake place, but my thighs are glad it doesn't.
~ I listen to a podcast called For Crying Out Loud (I recommend it) and a couple of weeks ago it was pretty much like a free therapy session.
~ B wants to name our next son Danger.  Guess how excited I am about that.
~ After returning to work, I've started judging people on the following things: the length of the hem on their pants, their shoes and their highlights.

Well, I think that's about all I've got for today so go link up and tell me all of your dirty confessions!

I'm about to get political

Ok, folks.  I rarely get political.  I'm pretty middle of the road (with more right leaning than left), but I just CANNOT sit back and not say something about this.  A couple of days ago, a former Constitutional Law professor said the following: Ultimately, I'm confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.

If that quote doesn't make you scratch your head you either (1) are not from this country or (2) did not so hot in middle school civics and should not audition for Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?  One of the core tenants of the United States Constitution is the policy of Checks and Balances.  Meaning that each branch of the federal government checks the other branches.  Meaning?  Well that means that one of the Supreme Court's jobs is to do just what the President of the United States said it could not.

In one of the most famous Supreme Court cases (and a case that every first year law student studies on the first days of their Constitutional Law class), Marbury v. Madison, it was determined that it is the responsibility of the COURTS to determine what the law means.  Not the legislature. Not the executive.  THE COURTS!  Further, Marbury v. Madison overturned the Judicary Act of 1789.  Marbury v. Madison was decided in 1803.  Marbury v. Madison (5 U.S. 137): It is emphatically the province and duty of the Judicial Department to say what the law is. … If, then, the Courts are to regard the Constitution, and the Constitution is superior to any ordinary act of the Legislature, the Constitution, and not such ordinary act, must govern the case to which they both apply. (here)

There has been a lot of backtracking in the last couple of days.  He's been talking about how he was referring to SCOTUS not overturning laws on economic issues (umm they totally have before, and if they haven't then I want the weeks I spent studying the commerce clause back).  Then, he narrows the scope of his statement even more by saying that SCOTUS hasn't overturned a law on an economic issue like health care.  Umm, isn't that because THERE HASN'T BEEN ONE?

After that, he starts spouting about the Lochner Era of Due Process and Commerce Clause regulation.  One thing that I find funny, regardless of any other comments being made, is that it is finally getting down to the fact that, to the government, health care is an economic issue and not an issue of individual rights.  Therefore, for any politician to say that everyone has a RIGHT to affordable health care is such BS because it apparently is NOT an individual rights issue, but one of MONEY!

I posted something on my FB and now everyone is getting their panties in a twist about it.  For example, a lawyer friend of mine (don't forget, I'm a lawyer) is telling me about what he said and what "precedent" means and frankly is just chasing her tail and frustrating me.

I respect the office, but am frustrated by the man.  It is misleading and people will cling to this.  They will take it as truth and it just isn't!  Please, someone tell me how someone can say things like this and then we are supposed to take him seriously? Why do you say something that acts as nothing by to piss off the Supreme Court Justices?  Why do you misstate so many facts (umm the health care plan was passed by a margin of 7 votes, that is so NOT an overwhelming majority - even members of his own party voted against it).  I am just appalled by him saying this.

Alright, say what you want in the comments.  I have already defended my feelings to some of my liberal friends.  There is just little you can say when there was such a blatant misquote of the document you swore to defend and uphold.

And with that, I leave you with this:

Sheree will check you if the Supreme Court does not.

So What Wednesday

WHEW!  People, life is crazy!  Everyone's lives are crazy.  Anyway, what are you saying "So What" about?

I say So What If:

~ I am DYING to read Fifty Shades of Grey.  I've heard it's a saucy novel and, frankly, it's just what I need.  Mama needs to get her mind right.

~ I'm starving at 3 pm.  I'm trying to better since I don't have a lot of time to exercise these days.  However, I need some sort of snack by 3.  Please let me know any suggestions you may have.  So far, I've been working on almonds and some yogurt.

~ I am super nervous about our move.  Yes, I've been talking about packing and, it's true, we're moving at the end of April.  Just a couple miles away, but to a bigger, newer, nicer house that isn't tainted by whatever skanks B used to bring back here before he saw the light (ME!).  B bought our house before we met and I have never quite felt like it was my house.  I am pretty excited about the chance to really make it our house.

~ I bribed B to go to a wedding in St. Louis next month with Adam Carolla tickets.  We both like him, but he has been wanting to go to a live show for a while.  He's pretty excited.

~ I can't seem to stop being tired.  I guess a few weeks of good sleep don't make up for a few months of bad sleep.

Ok, that's all I have for tonight.  Go link up with Miss Shannon over at Life After I Do (or LAID for short) and tell us what you're saying "SO WHAT?!?!" about.

A New Thought

Have you seen the Thought Questions blog?  It reminds me a little of Post Secret, but it has questions.  I have been short on topics lately (hence the lack of writing) so here we go.
Forgive. One thing that I know in life is that when I am happy, I tend to bring happiness into my life.  There are a few people I have trouble forgiving for things, but I try every day. I feel so much peace in my life when I can stop caring and holding grudges. Everyone should know how to forgive.

Failure. I am constantly terrified after the fiasco of my last job. I am constantly terrified that I am going to fail as a mother. I am terrified that I am going to fail as a wife.  Failure is something that holds me back and I try to not let it run my life and just live one day at a time.

Acceptance. I don't think you can have healthy relationships without acceptance.  You can't get into a relationship with someone and hope to change them. If you don't like something about that person, it isn't going to change just so you have to decide if you can accept it, or if it will always bother if. If it will always bother you, then you can live in unhappiness or cut your losses and move on.  I've had to cut my losses in many relationships. I can't deal with high maintenance friends. I can't deal with someone who needs their hand to be held at all times.  That may make me selfish, and I'm okay with that. My friends must be selfish too then and we're fine with that.

To make time for my marriage. Between work, class, the baby and packing (what?!?!) I am exhausted.  B is exhausted. The only one who doesn't seem to be exhausted is LB - that is until 7:00 comes around. B and I love each other very much, but I just don't want to fall too far into a rut.  Life has gone through quite the adjustment in the last year and we are still trying to figure it out.  It will happen, but, for now, we make it.

6 (almost 7) Months of Squishy Baby Love

Baby Boy, Mama and Daddy love you so much.  You are our sweetest angel baby.  You are growing up so much everyday and we have so much fun playing with you.  Now that you are getting bigger, you love playing and rolling around and wrestling with Mama and Daddy.  We love you so much and can't believe how lucky we are to have such a perfect little baby boy.

BABY STATS
Sleep:  You go to sleep between 7:00 and 7:30 and getting up around 6:00 or 6:30.  Your sleep is so much better these days.  We almost always sleep through the night now.  Sometimes you wake once or twice, but you either soothe yourself back to sleep or we give you a paci and you are right back out.  Mama is so thankful for the extra sleep she's been getting.

Routine:  You are love daycare.  You have so much fun.  You get to school around 7:30 and forget about Mama.  You get so excited to see Miss Betsy and your friends (you also get excited for Miss Rena, but Miss Betsy is your favorite).  On Monday and Wednesday, Mama pick you up around 5:15. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Daddy picks you up around 4:45.  On Fridays, Daddy sometimes gets you around noon and Mama sometimes gets you around 2:15.  On the weekends, we have lots of play time, go on walks and you take 2-3 naps.  Tuesdays and Thursdays are bath nights and you love them.  We took the divider out of your whale tub and you have so much fun splashing about now.

Feed: Oh my goodness, any concern we ever had about you and a bottle is now GONE GONE GONE!  You drink up to 25 ounces of milk a day at daycare and now eat solid foods 3 times a day.  When we get up in the morning, you nurse and then you eat breakfast at school around 8:00 (normally cereal and fruit).

Weight:  You weighed 6 lb 15 oz when you were born. At your 6 month appointment you weighted 22.5 pounds.  Your weight gain has slowed, and we are ok with that - you stay in clothes longer!

Length: When you were born, you were 19.5 inches. At your 6 month appointment, you were 28 inches long. Your doctor says she doesn't expect babies to be that big until they are a year old.

Diaper Size: We are in size 3s and our next shipment of diapers will be size 4.

Clothes Size:  You wear anything between 6-12 month clothes and some 12-18 month onesies.

Hair Color:  Your hair changes color depending on the light.  Sometimes it's very blonde, sometimes it's light brown and sometimes it looks a little red.  Your mullet is now starting to blend in with the rest of your hair.   You just have so much hair!  You also have  a cowlick in the front that gives you a natural part and a sweet little boy cut.

Eye Color:  Beautiful and Blue!  Mama couldn't be any happier about it :)

Funniest Moment:  You babble all the time and it is really funny.  You make us laugh all the time.

Favorite Toy:  You love your blocks and your stroller.  At school, you play with all of the toys and have so much fun with them.  You especially like balls and being rough housed.  You are all boy!  Most of all, you love the remotes!

Firsts: Regularly sleeping through the night.  Sleeping on your tummy.  First teeth. Sitting up on your own all the time.  Rolling all the time. Art project at school.

You try to crawl and you are such a wiggle worm when we try to change you.  You love to snuggle Mama, but crawl all over Daddy.  I still love putting you to bed, but you don't let me rock you as long anymore.  We love every moment with you and can't wait to see what else you have in store for us!
